What is Havening?
Havening Techniques® is a revolutionary new healing modality, helping individuals overcome problems that are the consequence of traumatic encoding. Created by Medical Doctor and Neuroscientist, Dr Ronald Ruden and Steven Ruden.
The Havening Techniques® (also known as ‘Havening’) is a very new approach in the field of Psychosensory Therapy. It incorporates Havening Touch® Which involves a simple touch of the hands, upper arms and face. This touch generates a delta wave in the brain helping de-link encoded trauma.
The Havening Techniques® is a method, which is designed to alter the brain to de-traumatize the memory and remove negative effects from both our psyche and body. As part of its protocol The Havening Techniques uses the sensory input of human touch as a therapeutic tool which we have identified as Havening Touch®
The Havening Techniques® are really powerful tools that can be used to treat the consequences of encoded traumatic or stressful memories.
We have found receptors in the brain which we are able to activate, to permanently delete traumatic responses to trauma.

What to expect?
Within Havening there are different techniques, all using The Havening Touch™ which is applied fully clothed in a seating position. The touch can be used by yourself, a friend or myself, or even a mix. To the upper arms, face and hands. Using a mix of memory, relaxation, distraction combined with The Havening Touch… allows the process to work.
How does Havening work?
Using the Havening Touch™ and Havening Techniques® including distraction, we are able fill the brain with feel good chemicals, de-linking those encoded traumas. The Havening Touch™ produces delta waves sending a chemical reaction to the amygdala part of the brain where the traumatic memory is stored. Removing the AMP receptors from the surface of the neurons, (de-linking) the emotional link to no longer be a trigger. Leaving you with a feeling of an emotional distance, not an emotional vivid recollection.
Trauma
Some traumas we remember, yet have little emotional response, yet some have been hot wired in our brain and when activated we respond, with a rush or surge of emotion. Like reliving that memory, causing fears, phobias, anxiety panic attacks, chronic pain, chronic illness and PTSD.
Our brains are all unique as we are, so traumas will affect in different ways. We have what is referred to as a Landscape, this is different with each, our experiences, some are filled with love and happiness, whilst others may be totally the opposite, fear, drugs, alcohol and violence.
The brain of the nurtured positive person will be least likely to respond to a trauma, though someone whose landscape has already been active may respond from trigger, with things such as fear, chronic pain, anger anxiety, phobias and even PTSD.
Though just because you haven’t been affected doesn’t mean it won’t happen. It just means for someone who has been exposed, is more likely to become almost like a meercat, responsive and on the lookout always observant.
Along with the landscape we would have also perceived we were trapped, it doesn’t have to be a physical entrapment, it could be emotional, or maybe just a feeling that you are not able to overcome something, in these times a financial situation is often experienced fear of inescapabilty.
The amygdala which is the area in the brain where the emotional memory is located and is responsible for the flight or fight response. Smells, tastes, touch, sight and hearing all end up in the amygdala, so even when you aren’t exposed to the exact same event, other triggers may come in to play such as senses. Even if only one component is present a person can have an emotional response.
Will l be hypnotised?
Havening is not Hypnosis, you will at all times be aware of your surroundings, feeling and thoughts.
Do l have a say, in how the session is conducted?
The session is about you and your best interests are my priority, you control the session. I am there to facilitate and guide you. That is why l use Havening, it really is a client based therapy, you only need to divulge as much of your past as you want, for those who are unable to share will be able to work content free. You will be shown how to apply havening at home.
Does it work?
On a personal note l would say, YES. Havening does work on the majority, there will be those who The Havening Techniques® are not the answer. That is why it is important to have a prior consultation.
How many sessions do l need?
I am not able to give you a time frame, all l can say is for most, in one session there will be a remarkable difference. For complex traumas, this will take longer. Locating the original trauma may take longer as the need to unravel from one to another. Once the original trauma is located and havened, then subsequent traumas are de-linked and the emotional response will no longer be triggered.
Why do I need a trained Licensed Practitioner?
A Licensed Practitioner has studied and been through an extensive examination, training and continued development to be able to help you. There is so much more to The Havening Techniques® than just the Touch, so please when selecting a practitioner please check that they have had the appropriate training. A full list is available on www.havening.org
You may have seen the videos, Havening may look easy, and yes, you can use Havening Touch™ at home/work etc. I will show you how. The difficult part, which takes practice and skill, is locating where the core elements of the stressful event or trauma lie. Like all healing methods, experience, skill, training, and intuition play a major role.
Warning
Please do not use the Havening Technique® on yourself for a serious trauma or if you suffer from any psychological disorders.
We advise that you seek the help of a certified Havening Technique Practitioner® if you have experienced severe trauma or suffer from a psychological disorder
